A stretch of coastline in Surat Thani Province, Thailand

Thailand’s largest southern province, Surat Thani covers nearly 5,000 square miles of the Malay Peninsula. Its diverse geography ranges from forest-clad limestone mountains to grassland plains and river deltas. These lead down to a fantastically scenic shoreline and clutch of islands in the Gulf of Thailand. Surat Thani is a microcosm of the rich diversity of the country as a whole: Abundant regions of protected wilderness are interspersed with bustling urban areas, significant historical sites, sacred shrines, and more idyllic beaches and tropical island hideaways than we can likely visit in one lifetime. (Although we can always try our best.)
