Leviathan – ROXI ST. CLAIR

Pierre Dénys de Montfort – “Poulpe Colossal” (1810)

A beast awakens every century or so
When stirring begins in depths below
He lurks in the darkness of briny seas
As hunter, he preys; he’s deaf to pleas
Suckers are rimmed with jagged teeth
Tentacles squeeze and a deadly beak
Ripping bows, keels, compass, and sail
While harpoons fly and mastings flail
The monster snaps their vessels in two
Sailors meet their demise in water blue
Unblinking black eyes; slithering grips
Leviathan lives in a graveyard of ships.

My late Christmas present for my friend Casey, a sunny watercolor of the elf siblings from her story Athol.
